How and what I shoot--Jason Baranowski

Hey everyone. I am new to taking photos with a decent camera. I’ve always wanted to shoot good photos and this is the first year I took the dive and started shooting with a Nikon D3100. (Thank you KM). I figured if I’m responsible for selling yearbooks to schools, I should also be able to teach staffs some basics & advanced techniques about photography—and be able to compliment them on work well done.

My kids play a lot of sports, and taking up this hobby, has helped me capture some great moments. It’s also allowed me to take more great pictures of our own family, extended family, friends and even strangers.

I love doing post to the photos. I have to, because it’s a strength of mine. I’m still mastering manual settings. I’ve been known to be dangerous with Photoshop and other Creative Suite products. My process for managing photos is a lot like Jim’s, but I’m not on a MacPro. I just filter through the ones I feel are the strongest, most interesting. If they need post, I’ll work on them a bit. If not, I’ll leave them alone.

I have to admit, I take the camera with me many days, but not every day, due to the chaotic nature of the business I’m in.  I’ve been pretty good about taking photos throughout the week (except for today.) I also think Week 10 and the winter time has started to sink in. I dig the challenge though of trying to keep it interesting each week. It’s YB deadline season, Jim. C’mon bro.

Anyway, I’m thankful for everyone in this group and appreciate all of the good feedback you give me each week. Thanks to Jim for getting me to commit to something in my life and stay on it. I really look forward to looking back on this visual ‘journal’ for the year.
